DO YOU FEEL GOOD IN YOUR BODY?

One of the things we neglect far too often is ourselves.
We prioritise everything in our lives except ourselves: work, family, friends, everyday chores… everything else tends to come first. We dislike our bodies and the way we look.
We know this, yet it can be hard to find time and energy for ourselves.
It feels as though it requires a lot of hard work and the journey is painful.

HOW ARE YOUR ENERGY LEVELS?

We tend to feel STUCK, lacking energy, tired.
We want a change but don’t know how, don’t know where to start or which way to go. These days there’s information about absolutely everything out there. Fitness this, exercise that. How do we know what’s the right program to choose?
We might start something but then give up because it feels like it’s too much, or that it doesn’t bring progress.
Everyone goes on about how consistency is the key, but it can be really hard to stay consistent when so many of us don’t have the consistent willpower to stick to plans and programs, and everything else in our lives eats away from our energy levels.

DO YOU OBSERVE YOUR THOUGHTS?

There’s so much information out there, yet we are lacking ideas. How is that even possible?
Our minds tell us that we can’t do it. “I can’t run for a bus” is a common, jokingly meant statement, but one that so many of us say and there’s a level of pain underneath it.
We tend to believe our minds when it tells us “I can’t do it”, “I’ll never look like that”, “I’m not going to be fast / thin / very good “. The mind keeps us imprisoned in our own bodies by telling us we have no potential and the sad part is that most of us believe our minds.

CAN YOU ENJOY EXERCISE?

When we have so many commitments in our lives that take our energy, the last thing we want for ourselves is pain and hard work. So of course it is natural that we want to do something pleasurable in order to feel good.

Getting fit REALLY doesn’t mean joining the gym.
For many the gym can be a wrong environment – especially if you are new to exercise and not sure what to do. You get generalised gym programs that aren’t designed for specific goals and needs that people have as individuals. Exercise can become a necessary evil that you need to get out of the way as soon as possible, or even drop out of your lifestyle in the end, because you can’t find the joy in it. The motivation also drops soon if you don’t see any progress.

IS THERE ANOTHER WAY?

Because we are all different, we all have our likes and dislikes, strengths and limitations.
I think exercise should first and foremost be enjoyable and a way to get in touch with your own body. From there the progress and motivation come naturally. If you enjoy what you do, you’re more likely to stick with it.

I love exercise! Getting a good workout and leaving the worries in the background is my daily routine. My biggest focus is on self-awareness, mindfulness, getting in tune with the body and directing my energy to specific things that make a difference and that I enjoy, rather than dashing it all over the place. I choose workouts that keep me motivated when I feel great but also when I feel like crap.

And I preach what I practise

I want to teach you well. I mainly want to teach you how to love being in your body. It’s important to get the basics right. Getting the basics rights means learning correct techniques, minimising injuries, seeing clear progression but also that your energy is used correctly for the things that YOU like, and that empower you.

“Most people have no idea how good their body is designed to feel.” ― Kevin Mark Trudeau

MY TRAINING

I started with running. I progressed from being a coach potato and not knowing anything about exercise, to eventually running marathons.
Over the years I’ve done a lot of different things: cycling, strength training, boxing, spinning, High Intensity, kettlebells… I don’t run as much these days and I train a bit differently. I mainly do yoga, walking and bodyweight resistance training with High Intensity workouts.

My approach to exercise and fitness goes hand in hand with being present in the moment, feeling the body, working with my own energy levels and getting the technique right before progressing to the next level. As a sports therapist I’ve learned that this is the only way to train to minimise injuries. Recovery is also so important – some days I push really hard and other days I take it easy. It’s just about being in my own natural flow at all times.
